Lumina 3.1

 Model of the car:Lumina 3.1
General comments:Since the only problems I've had have been a result of the blown head gasket, I would still recommend this car as relatively reliable. It hasn't been as flawless as my mom's '93 Toyota Corolla, but for an American car, it's been pretty good. All the Japanese cars I looked at for about $2000 were a heck of a lot older than '92 and they had crap for an engine, crap for a body, or a little bit of both. All in all, a good car, even though it will end up having cost me more like $3500 (still a comparatively good deal). I would recommend this car for families or students who are looking for affordable and reliable American transportation. Make sure a mechanic you trust thoroughly checks the engine first before you buy.
What things have gone wrong with the car:I've had a lot of problems with this car in the couple of months that I've had it, all because of a blown head gasket. The engine was rebuilt in 1997, and the mechanic who did the work didn't do a terribly great job. To add to the mess, my mechanic couldn't figure out what was causing the problems and didn't notice the head gasket until it had gotten over $500 worth of misc. repairs.
Previous car:'87 Chevy Monte Carlo LS 5.0 - I actually like the power better in my Lumina over the Monte's V8. It may be because of the car's size.
