Lumina Euro 3.1L
| | Model of the car: | Lumina Euro 3.1L | | | General comments: | My family has been driving at least one Lumina for about 10 years now, it started with a '90 that just didn't know when to quit. That car started life as an Avis rental and had over 250000 on it when the transmition finally gave up second gear. The lumina I have now has over 100000 on it and the only complaint that I have is that the electrical system(battery, starter, alternator) is giving me fits, but this is the first Lumina we have had this kind of problem with. The breaks on all luminas tend to be soft, but we've only had to completely replace the breaks on the '90. My father and I now both drive '93s and he is kicking himself for having Mom in a Concorde. I was sad to see this model leave, but I look forward to the performance of the Impala, its replacement. Chevy got it right with the 3.1L V6! A great first car. Ideal for the college student away from home for the first time. While not advertised as a performance car, the Lumina has climbed to the top in my experiance... and it did it with the family in the back! | | | What things have gone wrong with the car: | Breaks- The breaks can be tempermental and soft, but once you learn them, they work when it counts.
Electrical system- especially in the starter and alternator, these tend to go out often and as a result, wear the battery faster.
Ease of repair- The earlier models were easy to repair, the later models were designed so that only GM dealers could do a competent job.
Ease of roadside assistance- again, that pesky design of the later models, while you can jump these cars by use of the "positive jumping post" connected to the battery by a small wire, it is very difficult to jump from the Lumina.
Turning radius- Very large for this type of car, sometimes difficult to park. | | | Previous car: | Lumina- years 1990,1993,and 1995.
Chrysler Concorde- year 1993. |
